The narrative of homecoming is a pattern extensively adopted by contemporary Native American fiction writers. It is initiated by Momaday in his House Made of Dawn, and enriched and developed by Welch, Silko and other native writers in their works. Later, with the development of multiculturalism, Native American writers turn to focus their writing on the conflict, syncreticity and integration of Indian and white cultures and in their writing, the homing pattern exhibits a more and more obvious postcolonial hybridity. By narrating the homecoming that crosses the cultural boundary between the center and the margin, Erdrich and her contemporaries present their solution as to how the Native people get rid of their existing dilemma of marginalization.
